Guest accounts are unrecoverable
A guest account has no identifier tied to you. Support has nothing to verify ownership against, so in most cases there is genuinely nothing they can do.
Step 1: Find out what kind of account you have
Check the account screen 2 minutes
Open the game's settings and find the account or profile section. A linked account displays the service it is linked to, usually with an email or username. A guest account shows a long numeric player ID and either an empty link section or prompts to link. If you cannot tell, you have a guest account, because linked accounts say so plainly.
Do this for every game you would be upset to lose. It takes two minutes each and it is the whole of the problem.
Step 2: Link to a service you will still have in five years
The most common regret is linking to a social account that later gets locked or deleted. Pick the account you are most confident about, not the one that is quickest to tap.
Step 3: Record the transfer details separately
Some games, particularly Japanese ones, use a transfer code and password rather than a persistent link. These are frequently single use and sometimes expire.
Generate the code at the moment you are transferring, not months in advance. Then note it somewhere outside the phone you are about to wipe, which sounds obvious and is exactly the mistake people make.
Also record, for every game you care about, the player ID shown on the account screen. If something goes wrong, that number is the only thing support has to work with.
