Most single-player PC games now run well on Linux through compatibility layers, frequently with performance close to Windows. Linux gaming's reputation lags its reality by several years. Most single-player games install and run with no configuration, and performance is close enough to Windows that it rarely factors into the decision.
There is still one wall, and it is a hard one.
Anti-cheat is the deciding factor
Competitive multiplayer titles whose anti-cheat does not support Linux, or whose publisher has not enabled support, simply do not run. This is per-game, not per-provider, and it is the only thing worth checking before switching.
