18 Genuinely Good Games for a Low-End PC
Not a list of 2008 games. Eighteen games worth your time that run at 60 FPS on integrated graphics or an old dual-core, with the measured settings we used to get there.
The short answer
The best games for a low-end PC in 2026 are those built around 2D art, low geometry counts or deliberately simple rendering rather than scaled-down 3D. Standouts include Vampire Survivors, Hades, Stardew Valley, Balatro, Terraria, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, Rocket League and Valorant, all of which hold 60 FPS on Intel UHD integrated graphics. For older 3D titles, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and CS2 on low settings remain playable on almost any hardware from the last decade.

Most "games for low-end PCs" lists are a list of games from 2009. Which is technically correct and completely useless, because you have already played Half-Life 2.
Everything here is a game people are actively playing in 2026 that happens not to need a graphics card. I tested each on an i3-8130U with Intel UHD 620 graphics — a genuinely weak 2019 office laptop — and on a 2015 desktop with a GTX 750 Ti. Frame rates below are from those machines at 1080p unless noted.

These are not consolation prizes. Several are among the best-reviewed games of the decade.
Balatro — A poker-themed deck-builder that consumed an unreasonable amount of my 2024. It is a card game rendered with a CRT shader, and it runs at the frame cap on literally anything. Locked 60 FPS on UHD 620.
Vampire Survivors — You move; everything else happens automatically as a screen-filling explosion of numbers. Costs less than a coffee, has swallowed hundreds of hours from people who intended to try it for ten minutes. 60 FPS, occasional dips late in a run when the screen is entirely projectiles.
Hades — Still the benchmark for action roguelikes: the combat, the writing, and a narrative structure built around dying. Runs beautifully on almost nothing. 60 FPS at 1080p on UHD 620. Hades II is heavier but still manages a stable 45-50 FPS at 720p.
Stardew Valley — Farming, fishing, a village of characters who each have a real arc. Endless, calm, and it runs on a toaster. 60 FPS everywhere.
Terraria — 2D sandbox with more content than games costing ten times as much, and a genuinely excellent progression curve. 60 FPS, dips only in very large multiplayer worlds.
Dead Cells — Fast, precise 2D action roguelike with animation quality that still stands out. 60 FPS locked.
Slay the Spire — The deck-builder that defined the genre. There is no graphical load at all; it is a card game. 60 FPS.
Into the Breach — Small-scale turn-based tactics, closer to a puzzle game than a strategy game, and perfectly formed. 60 FPS.
Competitive shooters that target low-end hardware
Free-to-play competitive games want the largest possible player base, which means they are engineered to run on office laptops. That works in your favour.
Valorant — Riot deliberately targeted very low minimum specs. On UHD 620 at 1080p all-low it holds 60-75 FPS; at 720p it clears 90. Comfortably the most competitive experience available on weak hardware.
Counter-Strike 2 — Heavier than CS:GO was, but still viable. 45-55 FPS at 1080p low on UHD 620; 70-80 at 720p. On the GTX 750 Ti, a solid 90+ at 1080p low.
Rocket League — Cars and a ball. Physics-driven, light on rendering. 60+ FPS at 1080p on Performance settings.
Fortnite in Performance Mode — This is the one that surprises people. Performance Mode strips the renderer to a much lighter path specifically for low-end machines, and it works: 50-60 FPS at 1080p on UHD 620, which is genuinely playable Fortnite on an office laptop.
Brawlhalla — Free platform fighter, 2D, essentially zero requirements, and a real competitive scene. 60 FPS anywhere.
Team Fortress 2 — Nearly twenty years old and still populated. Well over 100 FPS on anything.
Turn off the frame rate cap you did not know you had
Several of these games default to a 60 FPS cap or V-Sync on. If your machine can do more and you have a 120 Hz laptop panel, that cap is costing you responsiveness for nothing. Conversely, if you are getting 40 FPS with heavy variance, capping to a stable 30 with RTSS often feels better than an inconsistent 40 — consistency beats height at the low end.
Strategy and simulation
Turn-based games do not care about your GPU, and simulation games care about your CPU instead, which older machines often handle acceptably.

Civilization VI — Runs on integrated graphics at low settings. Late-game turn times are a CPU problem rather than a graphics one, so expect waiting on a dual-core, but it plays.
RimWorld — A colony sim rendered in what are essentially sprites, with more emergent storytelling than most scripted games. Simulation speed is CPU-limited late on. 60 FPS visually, throughout.
Factorio — Famously well-optimised. Runs at 60 UPS on hardware far older than it should. The factory must grow.
Mini Metro / Mini Motorways — Minimalist, elegant, endlessly replayable, effectively zero requirements.
Older 3D games still worth playing
Not filler — these hold up.
Portal 2 — Still one of the best-written games ever made, and it runs on the Source engine. 100+ FPS at 1080p on UHD 620.
Left 4 Dead 2 — Co-op with friends, still played, still excellent. 90+ FPS on integrated.
Deep Rock Galactic — Genuinely modern and genuinely light, thanks to low-poly voxel caves. 40-50 FPS at 720p low on UHD 620, better on any dedicated card. The best co-op game on this list. Rock and stone.
Minecraft (Java, no shaders) — Vanilla with a 6-8 chunk render distance runs on anything. Install Sodium; it roughly doubles frame rate on weak hardware for free. Do not install shaders.
Getting more out of the hardware you have
In order of how much each one is worth:
Drop to 720p. Integrated graphics are fill-rate and memory-bandwidth limited, both of which scale with pixel count. 1080p to 720p removes 55% of the pixels and typically buys 50-70% more frames. Nothing else on this list comes close.
Plug the laptop in and set Best performance. Settings → System → Power. On battery, most laptops cap the GPU aggressively — this can be a 2x difference on its own.
Clean the vents. A laptop with three years of dust throttles within minutes and loses more performance than every software setting combined. Compressed air, five minutes.
Update the graphics driver from the vendor. Intel and AMD both ship substantially newer drivers than Windows Update serves, and Intel's Iris Xe driver improvements over 2024-2026 were large and real.
Close the browser. On an 8GB machine with integrated graphics stealing 2GB, Chrome is not a background app — it is your biggest competitor for memory.
Turn off overlays. Discord, Xbox Game Bar, Steam overlay. Each costs a few frames you do not have to spare.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a potato PC?
Loosely, anything without a dedicated graphics card, or with a dedicated card older than about the GTX 900 series. In practice that means integrated Intel UHD or Iris Xe graphics, AMD Vega integrated, or an aging entry-level card like a GTX 750 Ti or 1050. The other common limit is 8GB of RAM shared with integrated graphics, which effectively leaves you around 6.5GB. Every game on this list was tested against at least one machine in that bracket.
Can you play modern games on integrated graphics?
Some, at 720p on low settings, with results that vary enormously. Recent Iris Xe and AMD Radeon 780M integrated graphics are genuinely capable and will run many 2023-era titles at playable frame rates. Older Intel UHD 620 and similar will not run recent AAA games at any usable setting. The productive approach is not to fight modern AAA at 20 FPS but to play the very large number of excellent games that were never demanding in the first place.
Does lowering resolution help more than lowering settings?
On integrated graphics, yes, and it is usually the first lever to pull. Integrated GPUs are limited by fill rate and by shared memory bandwidth, both of which scale almost directly with pixel count. Dropping from 1080p to 720p cuts pixels by 55% and typically buys 50-70% more frames — far more than turning shadows from High to Medium. Set 720p first, then tune individual settings from there.
Are these games free?
Several are: Valorant, Rocket League, Fortnite in Performance Mode, Brawlhalla and Warframe are free to play, and Counter-Strike 2 is free as well. Most of the indie titles are paid but inexpensive, usually between five and twenty pounds, and nearly all of them go on deep discount during Steam sales. Balatro, Vampire Survivors and Slay the Spire in particular are frequently under five pounds and offer hundreds of hours each.
How do I get more performance out of a low-end PC?
In order of effect: drop to 720p, set the Windows power plan to Best performance and make sure a laptop is plugged in, close the browser entirely, update the graphics driver from Intel or AMD directly rather than through Windows Update, and disable overlays. On a laptop, also clean the vents — thermal throttling on a dusty machine costs more performance than any setting, and it is free to fix.
