EA FC Lag and Stuttering: The Fixes That Actually Held Up

The thing that finally made EA FC playable for me was not a graphics setting. It was capping at 90 frames per second and closing the game between matches.
That sounds like folk remedy. It is not — the behaviour is consistent and reproducible, and it points at two real problems: the engine dislikes running uncapped, and the client leaks memory across a session.
Match five feels worse than match one
If your session degrades progressively, that is memory accumulation rather than heat or hardware. It resets when the client restarts, which is the tell.
Symptom to cause
Step 1: Cap the frame rate at 90
Set an external cap at 90fps 3 minutes
Use RTSS or the driver frame limiter. Set the in-game limiter, if there is one, to unlimited so the two do not fight. If you run a 120Hz or 144Hz display and 90 feels wrong, test capping three to five frames below your refresh rate instead.
Why this works is not fully documented, but the effect is consistent across hardware. The engine produces steadier frame times with an external cap in place than it does running free on hardware that can push far more.
Step 2: Restart the client every few matches
Not the machine. Just the game.
Memory consumption climbs across a session and is not released between matches. On a 16GB system this becomes noticeable by the fourth or fifth match; on 32GB it takes longer but still happens.
Close the client between matches when you have time. It is inelegant and it works.
Step 3: Reinstall the anti-cheat component
Intermittent hard freezes of one to two seconds, unrelated to on-screen activity, are commonly a corrupted anti-cheat installation rather than a performance problem.
The anti-cheat installer usually sits in the game's install directory as a separate executable. Run it and choose the repair or reinstall option. This is quick and it resolves a symptom that looks identical to stutter but has nothing to do with your GPU.
Step 4: Go wired and stop blaming your PC for input delay
Online input delay in this game is largely determined by server tick rate and by your opponent's connection. Neither is under your control.
What is under your control:
- Wired ethernet rather than WiFi, which removes a variable rather than adding speed
- Closing bandwidth-heavy background applications, particularly cloud sync and updates
- Not running a VPN unless you have specifically measured it to improve your route
Everything beyond that is marketing. Settings that claim to reduce online input delay are addressing local rendering latency, which is a real thing but a small fraction of what you feel in an online match.

Only partially. A wired connection and a low-latency route to the servers help, and everything else is determined by the server tick rate and the connection of the person you are playing. Local settings changes that promise to fix online delay are addressing something that is not happening on your machine.
Do lower graphics settings help the stutter?
Rarely, because the stutter is not GPU-bound. People drop everything to low, see no improvement, and conclude the game is broken. It is closer to the truth to say the bottleneck is elsewhere. Fix the cap and the memory situation before touching graphics quality.
